55th District Court
Judge Jeff Shadwick was appointed to the 55th District Court in 2007 by Governor Rick Perry, then elected to a four year term in 2010.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas (B.A. History, 1978), and of Baylor Law School (J.D. 1981) where he was a member of the Order of Barristers. Judge Shadwick took the bench after a successful 27 year career in the private law practice where he was a commercial litigator in both state and federal court, in Texas, Kansas and Missouri. During the 1990's he became board certified in business bankruptcy, but prior to his appointment was practicing exclusively in state court representing both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial and construction litigation. Judge Shadwick has achieved his “AV” rating. In 1991 he was made a shareholder at Winstead, P.C., then Winstead Sechrest & Minick. Prior to coming to the bench he was practicing at Andrews Myers Coulter & Cohen.
Judge Shadwick actively supports the legal community. He is a member of the Houston and Texas Bar Associations, and is a Life Fellow in the Houston and Texas Bar Foundations which support pro bono activities. He is an active member and director in the Garland Walker Inns of Court.
Judge Shadwick has also been dedicated to serving his community. He was twice elected to the HISD school board and served as President of the board in 2001. He has been a member of the Greater Houston Partnership, and has served Houston on the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board and the Upper Kirby Foundation. He is a member of American Mensa, a published author, and an active member of West University Baptist Church.
